Bermagui has a long history as one of Australia’s best tuna locations.
Australia’s largest yellowfin tuna are caught at Bermagui as well as albacore and southern bluefin tuna. More australian records for yellowfin are held at Bermagui than everywhere else in Australia combined.
the season for large yellowfin tuna is may and june as well as a spring run of albacore and school yellowfin.
The 2009 season also saw a run of jumbo southern bluefin tuna with many fish over 100 kg getting caught. Southern bluefin are off the coast from late june to the end of spring.
best tuna for 2009 was a 126 kg Bluefin tuna.
